Opening Ceremonies of the 1998 Convention of the
Mathematical Society of the Philippines on the occasion of
its 25th anniversary, 30 May 1998, De La Salle University,
"It is my honor and pleasure that I am
invited to speak in this important milestone of our society.
Today, we proudly celebrate the first twenty-five years of
the Mathematical Society of the Philippines in its role of
endowing mathematics in our country. We gratefully
acknowledge the vision, foresight and persistent efforts of
three personages: Dr. Cristina Parel, Fr. Bienvenido Nebres
and Prof. Salvador Gonzales for the creation of the MSP in
1973. They were also the same people, together with Dr. Tito
Mijares and Dr. Raymundo Favila, who in 1977 established the
Consortium in Mathematics of the three universities: Ateneo
de Manila, DLSU and UP to manage a doctoral program in
Mathematics. During the 10th anniversary of the Society, the
first seven graduates of the Consortium were presented with
